Steps/ChallengesI'm not going to lie, this was a worthwhile although painful project.
Step One: We started off with designing our mountains on a sheet of paper then sketched it out on our backboard (you can see this in one of the pictures). Step Two: Our teacher used to table saw to cut strips of wood. Then, we planed those pieces to an even width and smooth sides. After that, we sanded everything. Step Three: Cutting out the right lengths. Now, this was the painful part. This was painful and challenging because it was hard to make sure that everything was the right length. It was also difficult to keep track of where each piece of wood went. And this step alone took a little over two weeks. Step Four: Staining and then glueing. Step Five: Creating the frame and then putting a finish on it. And it's done! |
ReflectionI love how our mountains turned out. It really came together at the end.
What did I learn from the process? Well, you should plan out your time wisely. The reason cutting the strips took over two weeks was because everyone was on the same step at the same time. This meant that everyone needed to use the miter saw at the same time. Five cuts could equal a wait time of an hour to an hour and a half. That's what I mean about planning your time out wisely. If we had worked on this project first and hammered it out, we would not have had a wait time of an hour. You have to be smart about when you're doing stuff and who else might be doing the same thing. |
